Have you ever considered upgrading to wireless headset audio instead of speakers for your console gaming experience? If you have ever thought about buying a digital wireless gaming headset, then this article will help you learn more about the Ear Force X31 headphones before you buy. This is NOT a technical review; it is from a REAL gamer who plays online (usually MW2) every night, just like you. first purchased a Turtle Beach wireless headset to replace my (wired) X1s that my son kept "borrowing". Going wireless really sounded convenient, and with a little research I found the X31s very affordably priced at 21% off; and ordered them. Once they arrived, it took me about 7-8 minutes to hook them up; no problem. If you are using HDMI you will need the cable and adaptor (sold separate) purchased for .00 - .00 if you look online.
The headset is incredibly comfortable, with really soft cloth ear cushions. And when test playing Gears of War2 in Horde mode; all I could think was "WOW"! The rich, deep sound was AWESOME! I could feel the vibrations from the rumbling explosions in the distance, and being able to hear enemies from much farther away really gave me the edge. Next was Netflix and it really sounded great also when watching Star Trek and Mythbusters. Not having my family tripping over cables is a real plus also. Its been 31/2 months now and the Ear Force X31s have really made me happy; I will NOT play without them! This headset is very comfortable, the sound is rich and crisp, they block most outside distractions; and the Xbox live chat mike BLOWS the Microsoft version away! Having no wires for the wife and kids to trip over (sorry, but its happened to me before) is sweet.
Now what are the improvements that could be made? My only real issue with this headset is the mute switch is somewhat thin, making it harder to tell when it is on or muted. Not a big problem, but can be annoying at times. And you might want decent rechargeable batteries, as the 2 triple-A Duracell batteries last roughly 14-17 hours for me. Based on the overall quality of this Xbox gaming headset, combined with the now much lower price; the X31s get a solid 4 out of 5 stars!
